Online Dorje Trolo Drubcho led by Adzom Gyalse Rinpoche

White Jewel Mountain is happy to announce that Adzom Gyalse Rinpoche will lead a special advanced retreat in Crestone, Colorado from September 29th through October 4th, 2023. During the first 3 days of the retreat Rinpoche will teach the Experiential Teachings of Adzom Drukpa. Adzom Drukpa was one of the greatest lineage holders and propagators of the Longchen Nyingthig teachings. He achieved the Rainbow Body at his death in 1924, as did 13 of his disciples. This is only the second time these pith instructions have been taught in the West.

The second half of the retreat will be devoted to the practice of Dorje Trolo.

Rinpoche will give the Dorje Trolo empowerment (10/2) and then we will hold a Dorje Trolo Drubcho for 2 days. A drubcho is an intensive practice that accumulates significant merit for the practitioner and the environment and brings many blessings. It is ideal for those who have been Dharma practitioners for many years.

Rinpoche will also offer one-on-one semtri interviews to whoever wants one at this retreat. Semtri interviews are personal instructions on the nature of the mind.

We will be limiting the attendance at this retreat to 20 practitioners due to the risk of Covid. Covid precautions, which each retreatant must honor, are listed on the Eventbrite registration page. We are taking these precautions because we are aware of retreats held at other centers where people contracted Covid.

Dorje Trolo was the most wrathful form that Guru Rinpoche manifested to tame and convert the unruly in Tibet and Bhutan. The practice is extremely powerful and is known for eliminating external, internal and secret obstacles. It is considered by Ad.zom Paylo Rinpoche and Adzom Gyalse Rinpoche the best practice to do during our turbulent times. Dorje Trolo was a heart practice of Adzom Drukpa. The Dorje Trolo text we will be using is a mind terma of Adzom Drukpa.

The prerequisite for attending the retreat is the completion of Ngondro and/or you must have received an empowerment by either Ad.zom Paylo Rinpoche or Adzom Gyalse Rinpoche for Adzom Drukpa’s Dorje Trolo, Vajra Kilya, or Green Tara and subsequently practiced the sadhana.

The Dorje Trolo Drubcho (10/3 and 10/4) will also be offered online and there is no prerequisite needed to attend. Rinpoche will give the Dorje Trolo transmission during the Drubcho. This two-day drubcho will differ from the Virtual Dorje Trolo Drubcho Adzom Gyalse Rinpoche led in December of 2022 in that the musical instruments used during a live Drubcho will be played (drum, cymbals, longbow, damaru and bell).

Those attending virtually will be able to watch those in the live retreat and learn where to use their damaru and bell during the practice. The drubcho will be recorded and retreatants will have access to the recordings indefinitely. Spanish translation will be available. Rinpoche will also teach on Dorje Trolo during the Drubcho.

We will do a Dorje Trolo tsog (offering feast) on each day of the Drubcho. The Dorje Trolo Tsog carries immense blessings. Virtual participants are urged to do a tsog where they are practicing. We will send you information on how to prepare a tsog, if you wish to perform one.

After registering for the in-person retreat, you will be emailed instructions on how to purchase the Dorje Trolo text directly from the printer if you do not already have a hard copy. We are using the same text that we used in the December 2022 Virtual Dorje Trolo Drubcho and our 2018 Dorje Trolo Drubcho held here in Crestone, CO. The cost will be approximately $35. The text is 150 pages long. For those ordering a new text, we will be giving you your copy at registration on September 29, 2023 at 8:00 am.

Both retreats will be from 9 am to 5 pm Mountain Time each day.

Adzom Gyalse Rinpoche has a direct, unbroken lineage back to Longchenpa. He was recognized by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche as the tulku of the great Gyurme Dorje, the eldest son of Adzom Drukpa.

At an early age Adzom Gyalse Rinpoche began receiving teachings, transmissions and empowerments from many eminent masters including HE Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, Lama Tserpo Rinpoche, HH Dalai Lama, HH Trulshik Rinpoche and HH Penor Rinpoche, and HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Dilgo Khyentse 

Rinpoche was Adzom Gyalse Rinpoche’s root guru.

Rinpoche is the master of all annual ceremonies at Shechen Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal and at some branch monasteries in Bhutan. Adam Kane will be translating during The Experiential Teachings of Adzom Drukpa. Adam was trained at the renowned Rangjung Yeshe Institute in Kathmandu, Nepal. He is Tsoknyi Rinpoche’s main translator.

Erik Drew will be translating during the Dorje Trolo empowerment and the Dorje Trolo Drubcho. Erik has been a Tibetan translator for over 30 years. In his youth he spent several years living as a monk at Rumtek Monastery under the guidance of His Holiness the 16th Karmapa. He has translated for dozens of lamas over the years and his translation skills are appreciated all over the world.

We live in troubled times. There are many, many negative and destructive forces in the world and in our country today: the war between Russia and Ukraine; climate change and the extreme weather it is causing; the severe hunger crises in multiple African countries; domestic terrorism in the United States and the rise of white supremacy and right-wing militias; the multiple threats to our democracy; political violence; Covid and monkey pox; the turmoil at our southern border; China’s recent development of nuclear-capable hypersonic missiles; and an increased threat of nuclear war.

One need only look at the devastation and suffering the wildfires on Maui caused in the past week to understand the dire predicament our planet is in.

It is my great hope that many will participate from all over the world in the 2-day Virtual Dorje Trolo Drubcho. Immense positive energy will be generated which will undoubtedly further world peace, happiness, well-being and aid in disaster relief. It is also a way for individuals to eliminate the obstacles they have personally accrued.
